Where and When to See Local Art in Anaheim

Southern California has no shortage of cultural events and activities. Artists from all over the world flock to this sunny slice of paradise. With so much happening in the neighborhood, you’ll find plenty of reasons to step out and look at some art. Take a look at all of the local art shows coming to the Anaheim area this spring and summer.

Urban Ocean Festival

When: April 29-30, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Where: Aquarium of the Pacific, 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach

If you care about the environment and want to support local artists, this is the event for you. Everything in the festival is made with recycled materials, including full-size fashion gowns, paintings, sculptures, and even some poetry readings about all things green. The festival takes over the Aquarium of the Pacific, filling this expansive interior with dozens of booths and special events. Stop by to see some unique art on display with a powerful message, one that centers on our relationship to the environment.

Pacific Islander Festival

When: June 3-4, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Where: Aquarium of the Pacific, 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach

Dedicated to the people of the Pacific, this special festival celebrates the work of Pacific Islander artists, musicians, and chefs. You can peruse through the many booths on display and have your fill of ethnic bites and treats. Paintings of the islands’ residents and gorgeous landscapes will also be on display. This year’s festival is recognizing a slew of Pacific Island nations including the Marshall Islands, Tahiti, Tonga, Fiji, and many others. If you were a fan of Disney’s Moana, you won’t want to miss it.

Laguna Art-A-Fair

When: June 30-Sept. 3

Where: 777 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach

This event is juried so you can expect to see a more refined selection of art on display. The Art-A-Fair is one of the most notable art fairs in the country, usually representing over 100 artists from around the world. You’ll also find a smattering of local cuisine, live entertainment, and some artist talks. If you’re in the arts yourself, you can except to make a few valuable connections during the festivities. Walk around, grab a bite, and enjoy the work of some of the nation’s best up-and-coming artists.

Sawdust Art & Craft Festival

When: June 30-Sept. 3

Where: 935 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach

A magical event that features the best and the brightest artists from the Laguna Beach area, the Sawdust Art & Craft Festival is a one-of-a-kind experience in Southern California. It hosts over 200 artists that work in a variety of different mediums, including painting, sea glass, sculpture, metal work, wood, photography and more. Regardless of what kind of work you’re interested in, you’re bound to find something that catches your eye. The prices tend to be fairly modest, so don’t forget to bring your checkbook if you’re interested in making a purchase or two.
